Are we missing the real opioid drug crisis?

While the US suffers a much discussed overdose epidemic, less attention is paid to the fact that much of the rest of the world misses out on vital painkillers such as morphine.

On a chilly autumn morning in Washington DC, families huddled around President Donald Trump as he faced the world's media in the White House.
Some clutched photos of lost loved ones. They had been invited to witness a historic moment in their fight to try to ensure what had happened to them would not keep happening to thousands more US families.

Kabul mourns 100 dead after ambulance bomb

Interior minister Wais Barmak said a number of people died in hospital overnight and the death toll now stood at 103, with 235 wounded. Most of the injured are men.

Elton John announces farewell world concerts

The 70-year-old singer, one of the best-selling recording artists in the world over a 50-year career, told a news conference in New York that his priorities have changed after becoming a parent to two children with his husband David Furnish.
"I love them so much. I don't want to miss them and I don't want them to miss me," he said. "I've had a good run."
He said his last tour, called "Farewell Yellow Brick Road," would start in September 2018 in the United States and would last through 2021, taking him all around the world.
"It will be a wonderful way to thank people," he said. "It's a way of going out with a bang. I’m not the kind of guy to go out with a whimper."
John made the announcement after a live performance of his hits "Tiny Dancer" and "I'm Still Standing."

pHe said he expected to be questioned by justice department special counsel Robert Mueller within two to three weeks, with approval from his lawyers.

"I would love to do that as soon as possible," said Mr Trump.
The president had previously said he thought it "unlikely" he would be interviewed by Mr Mueller.
He has called the Russia investigation a "witch hunt" and a "hoax".
Speaking at the White House on Wednesday, Mr Trump maintained he was "absolutely" prepared to be questioned under oath by the top investigator.

JP Morgan boss in new warning on Brexit job losses

The chief executive of JP Morgan has told the BBC it could cut its 16,000 UK Jamie Dimon said the US bank had not needed to make drastic cuts on day one after the EU referendum.
But he revised his long-term estimate of job losses upwards if Brexit talks failed to produce an outcome close to the current arrangements.
Mr Dimon added that such a scenario would harm London as a financial hub.
The boss of the US's most valuable bank had warned in the run-up to the referendum that 4,000 jobs could go if the UK voted to leave the EU.
Since then, JP Morgan has revised that estimate down to between 500 and 1,000 jobs, leading many to dismiss his warnings as part of "Project Fear".
In an interview with the BBC at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Mr Dimon acknowledged that on closer analysis, it turned out the bank did not need to make such drastic moves on day one of Brexit.workforce by more than a quarter if financial rules diverge after Brexit
